School may be just starting up, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start thinking about Halloween — and maybe even the winter holidays.
Next week, Shady Brook Farms is accepting applications for their 25th annual HorrorFest, featuring a haunted hayride and other attractions. If nothing else, said Amy Lamb, the farm’s marketing manager, the seasonal job is a way make some extra cash for Christmas shopping. But more than that, it’s a way to enjoy Halloween with like-minded people.
“We have a tremendous amount of returning people because it’s so much fun,” said Lamb. “They really enjoy what they do. They have parties, and when we’re not open they go to other attractions in the area as a group.”
Horrofest, which runs every weekend in October, features a haunted hayride and barn, and the “Carnage” corn maze that sports a different design each year. Shady Brook also features what Lamb says is their “hidden gem”: Alien Encounters, a 3-D experience with live actors and animatronic aliens.
To make it all happen, the farm is looking for actors to play in the attractions. “We’re looking for people are fun-loving, who not only like to scare people but genuinely like people and want to have fun,” said Lamb.
For those interested, there’s an application to fill out, and Shady Brook will be accepting them in person on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. A manager will meet with each applicant to discuss the position and their availability. There will be mandatory dress rehearsal on Sept. 28.
