Bucks County Health Department reports first positive Zika case

A Bucks County resident has been diagnosed with the Zika virus, according to a report from the Bucks County Department of Health released last week.

Health Director David Damsker confirmed that the case involved a resident who recently traveled to the Caribbean and returned home after an undisclosed amount of time. The individual, who is unnamed in the report, has fully recovered.

“This positive case does not elevate the risk of contracting Zika for any of the residents of Bucks County,” Damsker said. “There is no risk of local transmission as a result of this one individual.”

As of early last week, the Pennsylvania Department of Health recorded 36 confirmed cases of Zika, with 154 pending test results.

Bucks officials have set up an information page on the Zika virus available on the homepage of the county’s website. For information, visit www.buckscounty.org.
