U.S. Army Specialist Sage Loitfellner returned from deployment in Kabul, Afghanistan to a warm welcome from family, friends and Lower Southampton Township.
The Feasterville native was honored during a short ceremony last Wednesday at the township administration building. Members of the Feasterville Business Association presented Loitfellner with his military unit flag, which was displayed during his deployment.
It was replaced by an American flag with his name on it and placed on the Lower Southampton Wall of Fame to show appreciation for his service to the United States.
“It will be available forever for the citizens of Lower Southampton to view,” Michael Hughes of the Feasterville Business Association said. “We thank you for your service.”
Loitfellner was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division (Fort Drum), which handled mountain patrol and security of U.S. civilian contractors in high-risk areas of Afghanistan. He was deployed since April 2015.
“I found out my last month of deployment that all of this was happening,” Loitfellner said, still smiling after the presentation. “It feels good.”
Loitfellner is a graduate of Poquessing Middle School and Bucks County Technical High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 2013. He is the son of Joseph Nalbone and Michelle Loitfellner, who joined him for the presentation.
“It’s great to have him home,” his mother said. “We are so proud of him.”
